1 endometriosis question on Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:21 am

I am menopausal at 42 due to a total hysterectomy for endometriosis.Would nutrafx help my menopausal symptoms or only at the expense of aggravating pain from any residual endometrial cysts?
Thank you in anticipation, Sally Dee.

Sorry to hear about the endo and the hysterectomy. fxmeno is’nt likely to aggravate the endo. Unlike normal HRT, which is really a copy of the real sex hormone the phyto in fxmeno works less strongly in endometrial tissue, same as breast tissue. You do need some level of hormonal activity in that area but nothing more than what is healthy, not the increased level you would see in your cycle which is normally when the endo causes a problem. Get customer services to send you a GP info pack and run that by your specialist. That’s always the sensible thing to do.

Hi,
Just to add that my premature hysterectomy was due to
endometriosis cysts and adhesions. I've never had problems with
endo. pain since and I've been using this product since 2002.

Hi Sally,

I've found a statement on this topic which was issued by the Canadian Society
of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists:

Combined hormone therapy in standard doses does not appear to cause regrowth of endometriosis in postmenopausal women, nor in women receiving estrogen-progestin “add-back” therapy following medical oophorectomy with gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues. A small subgroup of women may experience recurring pain and other symptoms during unopposed ET, particularly if residual disease remains following definitive surgery.

From the figures quoted from the trials, the risk of re-occurence is
between 0.9 - 2.4 %.
